There is some confusion over vaccinations for dogs since a new vaccine has come on the market.
The normal vaccine (C5) covers 5 viruses: Distemper, parvovirus, hepatitis, (C3) Para influenza and bordatella bronticeptica.
The new vaccine gives 3 years coverage against 3 of these viruses; Distemper, parvoviris and hepatitis but Para influenza and bordatella bronticeptica (C2) still have to be given annually and boarding kennels and vets etc won’t accept pets unless they have the C5 vaccinations.
The heartworm injection still has to be given annually as well.
I contacted the university and they recommended that the C5 be given every year but people who want to minimize the amount of vaccine their dogs are receiving will prefer the 3 yearly C3 vaccines and the annual C2, heartworm, worming and check up.
If you have any questions about this please contact the hospital.
